The horse is a noble creature and can be shared by all in harmony.
I'm glad that this noble animal is no longer used in war against its own instinct for survival.
the horse may still be used in work and pleasure , however I would like to think that its lot is now a more happy one and we treat the horse with the respect and dignity that it deserves.
The horse is still abused in some ways and this should be seen by all as we see abuse on any human , the use of whips and other implements of restraint would not be tolerated on humans, so why do we in some cultures think that this is alright to use on the horse?.
Horses should not be used to hunt down and kill other creatures, they are not aggressive pack hunters or killers. ( By Stephanie)
Recognition.
Horses have keen senses of sight, hearing and smell. It used to be thought that the horse was colour blind, but now it is known that the horse can see colours as we do.
They can also perceive movement very well, an advantage when spotting enemies creeping up in the distance.
Domestic horses can recognise their owners in the same way as they recognise each other and as we do , by sight, voice and sometimes smell !.
Communication
Horses communicate with one another using facial expression and body language which speak as plainly as words, bearing the teeth and the corners of the mouth drawn up says "aggression", friendliness is indercated by nibbling each others skin, nearly always near the root of the tail.
Behaviour
To strengthen friendship between two horses you may see them grooming each other around the neck and shoulders, places that they cannot reach for themselves.
Sniffing nose to nose is a greeting ceremony, horses yawn for the same reason we do.
We yawn when we are tired, or to get going when we wake up.
The yawn makes the horses lungs fill with oxygen thus increasing the flow of blood to the muscles, heart and other organs, the muscles work better and tiredness is gone.
Domestication
We do not really know how long ago the horse was first started to use for mans purposes, but its domestication had a real impact on the history of mankind.
At first the horse was mainly used to carry and drag heavy loads, then following the invention of the wheel, to draw chariots and heavy carts.
But it was a cavalry horse that influenced history most, for instance without the horse the conquests of Gengus Khan, and the Spanish over South America would not have been possible.
Herds
The Mares in a herd form associations with one another that lasts for years, but their relationships within the stallions are less stable.
The herding instinct is very strong with the horse, it is rare to see single horses in the wild.
Courtship/matting
As most mammals there appears to be very little courtship between stallion and mare.
Were used to the idea that other animals have a long courtship before the matting takes place, not so it would seem with the horse, matting seems to be a very short and court less affair, with courtship almost non accessioned.
